Temperature limits of Kaydon thin section bearings

The permissible operating temperature for Kaydon Reali-Slim thin section bearings can be limited by:

  • the dimensional stability of the bearing rings and balls
  • the cage/separator
  • the seals
  • the lubricant

Thin section bearing rings and balls

Kaydon thing section bearings are heat stabilized for use from -55 to +120 °C (-65 to +250 °F).

Kaydon thing section bearings with rings and rolling elements made of M50 steel (Kaydon designation: M...) are are heat stabilized for > 120 °C (250 °F).

Cages/separators

The permissible operating temperature for cages/separators depends on their material:

  • Brass, non-metallic composite, glass fibre reinforced PA66, phenolic laminate, steel, stainless steel, PEEK, PTFE: can be used at the same operating temperatures as the bearing rings and balls
  • PA12: 80 °C (180 °F)
  • Vespel SP-1 polyamide plastic: 260 °C (500 °F)

Seals

The permissible operating temperature for NBR seals is -40 to +100 °C (-40 to +210 °F). Temperatures up to 120 °C (250 °F) can be tolerated for brief periods.

Seal materials for higher temperatures are available on request.

Lubricants
